WINNEBAGO RECALL
Winnebago Industries has issued a critical safety recall for 2022–2027 Winnebago EKKO motorhomes. This recall involves a significant fire and carbon monoxide hazard that requires immediate attention from all owners.
The Defect: Unintended Generator Startup
The core issue involves the onboard generator, which may automatically start without operator action or intent. This spontaneous activation is caused by a software or wiring fault within the Auto Generator Start (AGS) system.
The Critical Risks
The primary danger of an unintended generator startup is the risk of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning and fire.
- Indoors/Garage: If the generator starts while the RV is parked inside a garage or enclosed building, odorless, colorless carbon monoxide can quickly build up to lethal levels.
- Fire Hazard: If the RV is parked near flammable materials or in a confined space, the heat from the generator exhaust could ignite a fire.
REQUIRED ACTION: Park Outside Immediately
Until your vehicle has been inspected and repaired, Winnebago and the NHTSA strongly advise all owners to park their vehicles outside only. Do not park your EKKO in a garage, under a carport, or near any structure where exhaust fumes could enter an occupied building.
The Remedy
Winnebago is currently finalizing the repair procedure. Registered owners will be notified by mail to schedule an appointment with an authorized service center. The repair will be performed free of charge.
